What We Do

For 30 years, South Oakland Shelter (SOS) has been ending homelessness for individuals and families in crisis. With an emphasis on homeless prevention, sustainable housing solutions, and career development, SOS implements strategies and programs that provide realistic options for homeless and at-risk people seeking stabilization and self-sufficiency.

The Challenge

In 2014, 97,624 people experienced homelessness in Michigan – an increase of over 4% from 2012.

Of these, 26,490 (27%) resided in Metro Detroit.

Our Results:

80% of our shelter guests successfully secured housing, and a year later 88% of our clients are still in their home.
